PK MAYO
PAUL KENNEDY MAYASICH
Paul’s natural musical talent on guitar, especially slide, both in concert and recordings, has garnered worldwide praise from his colleagues and critics. Publications Vintage Guitar Magazine and Blues Matters UK have drawn comparisons to the work of Duane Allman, Lowell George, Roy Buchanan, Ry Cooder and Sonny Landreth. His rich vocals have been receiving as much attention as his guitar tone and melodic riffs.
ABOUT
“PK Mayo,” also known as Paul Mayasich, started playing guitar as a youngster growing up across from a lake outside the Mesabi Iron Range town of Eveleth, Minnesota. The seventh of eight children, his love for music was sparked by his older siblings’ eclectic musical tastes and growing vinyl collections.
Before getting his first guitar, Paul would practice slide with a 17mm deep well socket on his mom’s broom. A fishing accident in his early years left him without sight in his left eye. It was after this experience that Paul’s gift for hearing and playing music began to take over.
In the late ‘80s Paul moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and started jamming at a club called Red’s Roost, aka “Blues Alley,” with such notables as Jack McDuff, Willie Walker, Big John Dickerson and Billy Holloman.
Then came work with Al Rapone’s Zydeco Express in San Francisco, Bernard Allison and Alberta Adams while signed to Ron Levy’s Cannonball Record Label.
PK Mayo is available for festivals, theaters, clubs, private events and session work.
“The record is a showcase for a guitarist, singer, and songwriter at the peak of his powers.”
